Dear North Haven Parents & Guardians,

The Peek-at-the-Week for the upcoming week is below.  We hope you all remembered to turn your clocks ahead today for Daylight Savings Time. We also want to wish a happy Ramadan to those families who celebrate this.

Have a great week! If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Kim Manser, Acting Principal &

Safety Procedures

The safety of all students and staff at North Haven School is of great importance. Each year we work hard to ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place for the various situations that may occur and affect our staff and students and that we practice safety drills. If you have any questions about our safety procedures, please contact our school administration.

Fire drills are a long-standing expectation of everyone who congregates in a setting such as a school. We are required to have a minimum of six fire drills each school year. Our students and staff treat each drill as though it were the real thing, and we are very proud of their performance during those drills. Teachers keep class lists with them during all drills and attendance is always taken. Parents or other visitors are expected to evacuate the building when the fire alarm is sounded.

This past week we had a Lockdown Practice. We are required to have two lockdown drills each school year.  The teachers instructed the students in advance of the drill regarding their role during a drill of this kind. No one is allowed to enter or leave the building during a lockdown procedure. This drill is always done together with a Calgary City Police Officer.  The feedback regarding this lockdown drill was that overall, our school did an excellent job.

Student Led Conferences: March 21 & 22

Conference Booking opens to parents on Monday, March 11 at 6:00 am and closes on Friday, March 22 at 10:00 am. Up to four families can book into each 30-minute conference block. Conferences can be booked using your MyCBE account. If you need help with this, please use the following link: Conference Booking Help. If you need further assistance, please contact the office.

These are Student Led Conferences, so parents are asked to bring their child to school during their conference time. Students will have the opportunity to share their work with a parent and engage in curriculum-related tasks. Student-led conferences are a great way to better understand what students are working on at school and how well your child is meeting grade-level expectations. The music room will be open during this time as well so students can share some of the things they have been learning in music with their parents if they would like. If you require an individual meeting with your teacher, you are encouraged to email him/her directly to book a time.

Conference Hours
Grade 1-6: Thursday 3:30 – 7:30 & Fri 8:00 – 11:00
Kindergarten: Thursday 3:30 – 7:30

**Please note: There is no school for students on the following day(s).

  • Grade 1-6: No School on Friday, March 22.
  • Kindergarten Only: No School on Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22.

Parking at Bus Stops

Just a reminder to please be considerate of neighbours when parking at the school and at bus stops. We have received calls from concerned neighbours in Carrington that parents picking up students are blocking driveways near the bus stop. They indicated parking is available across the street from the bus stop where driveways would not be blocked.

School Planning Engagement Survey

Thank you to those who have already completed our school planning survey. This survey is now open and will remain open until March 22. We invite all parents & guardians to share their thoughts about our school development plan, school budget and school fees. Reviewing the school planning presentation linked below before completing the survey will be helpful. Your input is important to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspectives.
