Music September 2023 to January 2024
During this term in Music, the students in Grades K, 1 and 2 have been focusing on the steady beat and rhythm patterns using various percussion instruments, games, and movement activities. Students explored melody and composition through the Fall composition project as well as xylophone work with the song One, Two, Tie My Shoe. Through music listening activities, students discussed how music makes us feel and identified fast/slow, quiet/loud and high/low. We have experienced form and expression through singing and movement and developed performance skills through our Winter Celebration songs If I Could Fly Like a Snowflake and Mousie in the Snow.
During this term in Music, the students in Grade 3 have been focusing on keeping a steady beat through songs and games such as Plainsies Clapsies, and reading and notating rhythm patterns. Students explored melody and composition through the Pyramid rhythm project as well as xylophone songs such as the Whoopee Cushion song. Through music listening activities, students discussed how music makes us feel and identified instrument families, tempo and dynamics. We have experienced form and expression through singing and movement and developed performance skills through our Winter Celebration songs, We Will Jingle and the Nutcracker March.

Through music listening activities, students discussed how music makes us feel and identified instrument families, tempo and dynamics.

Students explored melody by reviewing the music staff and composition through the Pyramid rhythm project as well as xylophone songs such as Mbira Jam. Through music listening activities, students discussed how music makes us feel and identified instrument families, tempo and dynamics.
