Dear North Haven Families,

On behalf of the staff at North Haven School, I am delighted to welcome you to the 2026-27 school year. We are excited to welcome our new students and families and to reconnect with those returning to our school community. With the first day of school just around the corner, we are looking forward to a year filled with learning, growth, curiosity, and connection.

At North Haven, we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential to student success. We are committed to creating a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environment where every child can thrive. Throughout the year, we will work together to support students academically, socially, and emotionally while providing opportunities for students to build relationships, develop leadership skills, and discover their strengths.

Important Start-Up Information

The first day of classes for students in Grades 1-6 is Monday, August 31, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Kindergarten families are reminded that Kindergarten students will also begin school on Monday, August 31, 2026, through a staggered entry process:

  • Students with last names A-H will attend from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Students with last names I-Z will attend from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

This staggered entry process helps our youngest learners become comfortable in their new classroom environment and allows staff to welcome each child and family personally.

Families are encouraged to visit our Back-to-School page for important information about transportation, communication, school schedules, and other start-up details.

School Office Information

The North Haven School office will reopen on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. If you have questions prior to the start of the school year, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Office Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 7:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Need a Little Extra Support Before School Starts?

Starting a new school year can bring a mix of excitement and nervousness for students and families. To help students feel comfortable and confident before the first day of school, we invite any student who is new to North Haven, feeling uncertain about the start of the year, or who would simply benefit from a school visit before classes begin, to join us for an informal school visit and welcome opportunity.

Friday, August 28
12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Students and families will have an opportunity to visit the school, meet staff members, and become familiar with the building before the school year begins.

We hope this visit helps students feel welcome, supported, and excited as they prepare for a successful year at North Haven School.

Communication from Teachers

Our staff will return to school on Wednesday, August 26 and will be busy preparing classrooms and finalizing student information for the start of the school year. Families can expect to receive a welcome email from their child's homeroom teacher or grade team by Thursday afternoon, August 27.

This communication will provide classroom-specific information and important details regarding the first days of school. We appreciate your patience as staff prepare to welcome students for another successful year.

Student Supplies

North Haven provides school supplies for all students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. These supplies are covered by student fees, which can be paid through MyCBE Accounts later in September.

Students should arrive with:

  • A backpack
  • Indoor shoes
  • Outdoor shoes appropriate for the weather
  • A lunch (if staying at school over the lunch hour)
  • A healthy snack

Lunch Supervision

Families are reminded that students who remain at school during the lunch hour are enrolled in our lunch supervision program. Participation in this program incurs a fee, which will be available through MyCBE Accounts once fees are posted.

Partnering for Student Success

As we prepare for another successful school year, we ask all families to:

  • Review and update their demographic information through their MyCBE Account. Keeping contact information current ensures we can communicate important information and reach families quickly when necessary.
  • Review the Calgary Board of Education's Student Code of Conduct (AR 6005) and Progressive Student Discipline (AR 6006) which support safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environments for all students.
  • Ensure students arrive at school on time and attend regularly. Consistent attendance is one of the most important contributors to student success.
  • Subscribe to SchoolMessenger and monitor school communications throughout the year to stay informed about school events and opportunities.

Get Involved

We encourage families to become active members of our school community. There are many ways to connect through:

  • School Council and Parent Association
  • Volunteering in classrooms and school activities
  • Supporting special events and field trips

Information about volunteer opportunities and School Council meetings will be shared throughout the fall. Our first School Council meeting of the year will be held on September 8, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.

Family involvement plays an important role in building the vibrant and supportive community that makes North Haven such a special place.

Looking Ahead

North Haven offers many enriching opportunities for students throughout the school year, including clubs, leadership opportunities, fine arts, athletics, STEM experiences, and special events. We are excited to see students discover new interests, develop their talents, and build lasting friendships.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children each day. We are honoured to work alongside you and look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growth together.

Warm regards,

Cat Gammell
