Dear North Haven Families,
We hope you are enjoying this wonderful weekend. Last week was a great week at North Haven, and we are looking forward to seeing your children tomorrow! It is going to be another great week!
Coming up
Clubs
Clubs are starting in the next couple of weeks such as Choir, Chess Club and Leadership. Teachers will be sharing information this week about start dates with students.
School Council and Parent Association Meeting
Please join us on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 6:30pm, in the Learning Commons, for the first School Council Meeting of the year. It would be wonderful to see you there as we plan for the school year, look at fund raising efforts, and share school updates.
Meet the Team– Save the Date
On Thursday, September 26, 2024, we will be inviting all our families to ‘Meet the Team’. More information will be coming directly from your child’s classroom teacher closer to the date.
Just a reminder to make sure you check in with your child/children’s classroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns. They should always be your first point of contact. You should all be connected through their email messages over the coming days/weeks.
Have a wonderful week.

Information and Reminders
Attendance
Please call the school at 403-777-6220 option 1 and leave a voicemail for all attendance. If you are emailing your child’s teacher, the office still needs to be notified. Please include northhaven@cbe.ab.ca. If the office has not heard from you either by email or phone we will contact you directly. Please do not call the office with nonattendance issues until after 9:00 AM as this takes away from ensuring all the students have been accounted for. Thank you for your assistance during this very busy time of the day.
Bus Parents
At the end of every school day, we will put all REGISTERED AND APPROVED riders on the bus. It is of utmost importance that if your child will NOT be going home on the bus at the end of the day that you notify the office prior to 1:00 PM. Please leave a message on the attendance/bus line. For safety purposes, bus drivers will not release students in Kindergarten without a parent/guardian at the bus stop. Kindergarten students will be brought back to the school for pickup if there is no adult there for them. All students should make sure that a parent is at the pickup point before getting off the bus. Thank you.
Health Safety Concerns
To provide a safe learning environment for all students and staff, please be aware of health safety concerns at North Haven.
- Allergies / Peanut / Nut Aware - We try to ensure a peanut/nut safe environment, as we have several students and staff with severe allergies. Please keep this in mind while preparing student lunches/snacks. Students do NOT have access to a microwave at lunchtime. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.
- Scent sensitive – Help us keep the air we share healthy and fragrance-free. The chemicals used in scented products can make some people sick. At North Haven there are several students and staff with fragrance sensitivities, asthma, allergies and other medical conditions that are impacted by these scented products. Please do not wear perfume, cologne, aftershave and other fragrances when coming to the school, especially for school events. The use of unscented personal care products is safer for those who struggle with chemicals in the air.
Lunch Information
The school is following Boomerang lunch or waste-free lunch practices.
A Boomerang lunch is where students are asked to bring all the waste home from their lunches. This includes all packaging and food waste. A boomerang lunch is not to transfer waste disposal from school to home but to provide parents with first-hand knowledge of their children's eating habits and preferences. School staff see a huge amount of uneaten food go into the garbage day after day. This is not only wasteful but also expensive. Waste free lunches are similar to Boomerang lunches, where containers and cutlery go home as they are re-usable.
