North Haven families,
Thank you to Robert Scott, a parent at our school, who graciously offered to give all students in grades K-6 an introduction to Taekwon-do on Wednesday of last week. Students and staff alike were very involved and constantly moving throughout the day and had lots of positive things to say.
We are excited to share that students in K-6 will be working with Trickster, a theatre group in Calgary to create a drama presentation around the concept of Belonging. This will take place the week of February 24-28. Trickster artists will produce, direct, and choreograph the show. They will provide lights, curtains, sound props and costumes to make the show look great. Please stay tuned for more information. We thank the parent council for supporting this initiative.
Field trips or special events are coming up for many of our classes, please look for, sign, and return the consent forms if you haven’t already. It is important that all fees are paid using your child’s MyCBE account before the field trip. If you need support, please learn more on the Support page.
A note about attendance. Did you know that Alberta Education defines “chronic absenteeism” as missing more than 10% of the school year? This is about two days per month. If a child misses 10% of the year each year, he or she will miss a whole year of education by the time they finish high school. We love to see students at school and want to work with families to ensure that all students attend regularly. Here are some facts to consider:
- By grade 3, students with chronic absenteeism are less likely to read at grade level
- By grade 6, chronic absenteeism puts student at risk of not completing high school
- By grade 9, regular attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores
Have a great week,
Cat & Pam
